One suggestion, after reading the following, you may want to get help locally. A new installation will give you more choices during install than an upgrade. You shouldn't have any software compatibility problems during install, because this is a clean install. Although you could have hardware compatibility problems. The install system should let you know if this happens. This would be one of times you might want to consult someone locally. If it finds no hardware problems continue on. You will have to choose a language, time of day, date, currency, keyboard layout, etc.. When it comes to install location, etc. use the defaults. Next you will need to choose a file system. If your hard drive is less than 32 GB and you don't plan on getting a bigger one, Fat 32 will do. If your hard drive is larger than 32 GB or you plan on getting a bigger one NTFS file system is best. Partitions, one large partition should work for you. You will be prompted to activate Windows XP during setup. No personal information is required. For you, default settings should work best and if at any point you feel like you are in over your head, Take a break then go back to it and if you need to seek some help. Using a friends computer or the local library's, you may find answers to some of your questions on our web site or Microsoft's.
