First, all reminants of previous attempts to install Visual Studio 6.0 need to be removed. From your description it sounds like you are familiar with the system registry, but I will go thru the steps to be clear. Uninstall Visual Studio 6.0 if you haven't already, then goto "START", "RUN" and type in regedit click "OK". Click on the plus sign by HKey_local_machine, then the plus sign by software, by microsoft, by visualstudio then delete "folder 6.0". Click on the minus sign by visualstudio then move up to "shared tools" and click on plus sign. Look down thru the list for fp30wec.dll and vi30wrp.dll, they shouldn't be there, if they are delete them. Now exit out of regedit window. Go back to "START" then "FIND", "Files and Folders" and type in msvcrt.dll, then click on find now. Out of the files found copy the newest msvcrt.dll file to "X:\windows\system", (X) is the drive with windows (OS) foldersand files. Your directories (folders) may be a little different. Now go back to "START", "FIND", "Files and Folders" and type in msvcirt.dll and click on find now. Out of the files found, choose the one with the same date as msvcrt.dll found above and copy it to the same place. Once you have completed all the above, shut down your computer and reboot (turn power completely off). When your computer has fully booted up, install Visual Studio 6.0. In the past these steps have solved your particular problem. If you need more help let us know.
